REACH – OBJECTIVES, TASKS AND CALENDAR OF REACH

On 18 December 2006 the Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) was adopted. On 30 December 2006 this Regulation was officially published in the Official Journal of the European Communities.

The new REACH system entered into force on 1 June 2007, amending the Directive 1999/45/EC and repealing the Council Regulation (EEC) No 793/93 and Commission Regulation (EC) No 1488/94 and Council Directive 76/769/EEC and Commission Directive 91/155/EEC, 93/67/EEC, 93/105/EC and 2000/21/EC.

REACH imposes a number of obligations on manufacturers and importers of substances involved in the production, marketing and use of substances in their own form, as a preparation ingredient or as a substance present in articles. Application and enforcement of obligations under the Regulation allows for monitoring adverse effects on human health and the environment resulting from the production or import in quantities over 1 ton per year.
